Victims of Violance Program (VoV).
В оригинальном тексте «trauma survivor» – человек, переживший травмирующий опыт и выживший. Слово «жертва» описывает виктимизированную преступниками идентичность человека, которая конструируется во взаимодействии с ними в процессе акта или периода пленения и насилия, и поэтому это слово корректно использовать, когда описываются сами преступления или, иногда, – время сразу после них. Когда же мы говорим о людях, прошедших через недавний острый или множественный хронический травмирующий опыт и выживших, то важно лингвистически и смыслово поддержать конструирование идентичности выжившей или выжившего, которая отличается очень многим от идентичности жертвы, о чем подробно рассказано в этой книге. Мы также можем использовать в русском языке слово «пострадавшая/пострадавший», когда уместно подчеркнуть насильственный и мучительный характер опыта, а идентичность выжившей/выжившего только начинает конструироваться.

Дистресс – состояние страдания, выражающее переживание негативного стресса, и связанное с нехваткой на данный момент ресурсов для адаптации к нему.
Numbness (англ.) – психическое онемение, или эмоциональная анестезия, один из основных симптомов ПТСР, подробно об этом см. в главе 2 «Ужас», в разделе «Избегание».
Виктимизация – преступление, в процессе которого преступник(и) стремятся сконструировать у человека, на которого нападают, идентичность жертвы; и послествия этого взаимодействия для человека.
В тексте psychological disorder более мягкий и широкий термин-синоним к mental disorder (психическое расстройство), указывающий на множественные, в том числе социальные контексты проблемы.

Shellshock (англ.) отличался от контузии прежде всего психологическими, а не соматическими составляющими. В дальнейшем описывающие феномен термины менялись на «боевой невроз» и «боевая психическая травма». Слово «боевой» в данном случае существенно, так как подчеркивает, что пострадавшие принимали участие в боях или были помещены в боевую обстановку, а не только жили в военное время.
